Common Bedroom Feng Shui Mistakes
….and How to Fix them
Your bedroom is more than just a place to sleep - it’s a sacred space for renewal, intimacy, and grounding. But if you’ve been feeling tired, anxious, or out of sync, the problem might not be your schedule - it could be your space.
In Feng Shui, the bedroom holds immense energetic importance. It's the foundation of personal well-being, affecting both your physical and emotional health. Below are some of the most common Feng Shui mistakes I see in bedrooms - and how you can correct them for a more harmonious, supportive environment.
Clutter Under the Bed
The Problem:
Storing things under your bed may seem practical, but in Feng Shui, this blocks energy flow. Chi (life force energy) needs to circulate freely around you as you sleep. When it’s obstructed, it can lead to restless nights, emotional stagnation, and even chronic fatigue.
The Fix:
Clear everything out from under your bed - even items that seem harmless, like out-of-season clothing. If you absolutely must use this space, limit it to soft, sleep-related items, such as extra linens, and keep them in breathable, natural materials.
Professional tip: Clear and empty space underneath the bed is always the best solution.
Bed Aligned with the Door (The “Coffin Position”)
The Problem:
In Feng Shui, placing your bed directly in line with the door is considered a major energetic misstep. This is called the “coffin position” because your feet face the door, echoing how bodies are traditionally carried out. It invites excess, fast-moving energy and creates a sense of vulnerability.
The Fix:
Reposition your bed so you can see the door while lying down - but not directly in line with it. This is known as the command position, which enhances feelings of safety, control, and restfulness. If moving the bed isn’t an option, place a solid footboard or a piece of furniture (like a bench or screen) between the bed and the door.
Too Many Electronics
The Problem:
Electronics like TVs, smartphones, and tablets emit Yang energy - bright, stimulating, and overly active. These signals disrupt your nervous system and disturb the Yin qualities a bedroom should embody: rest, stillness, and calm.
The Fix:
Remove as many electronics as possible, especially near the bed.
If you have a TV in your bedroom, make sure it is covered with a fabric during the night or simply consider removing it from the bedroom. It acts like a mirror if facing the bed in any way.
Use analog alarm clocks instead of phones, and try reading a physical book at night rather than scrolling. If you must keep a device in the room, unplug it at night or store it in a closed drawer.
Pro tip: You can use EMF stickers on each electronic item to reduce the potential harmful effects of electromagnetic fields (EMFs).
Check Your Nightstands
Make sure your nightstands are in full working order and decluttered to support restful sleep. Keep only the essentials within reach—such as a lamp, a calming book, or a glass of water—to minimize visual and energetic noise. Drawers should be organized, not stuffed, and surfaces kept clear to allow energy to flow freely around the bed. A well-maintained nightstand not only supports nighttime routines but also reinforces a sense of calm, order, and intentionality in your sleep environment.
Special Feng Shui Tip
Avoid having exercise equipment or a working desk in your bedroom. It represents the opposite of relaxed sleep. If there is no other way, ensure the desk or equipment is covered during the night.
