Decorating Your Home with Feng Shui Wisdom
Kerstin Tracy, Certified Feng Shui Consultant | Feng Shui
Decorating for Christmas should be a joyous occasion, and applying Feng Shui principles can help maintain balance and positive energy in your home during the holiday season. Here are some general decorating rules for Christmas, along with specific Feng Shui considerations.
General Christmas Decorating Rules:
Mindful Placement
Be mindful of where you place decorations. Avoid blocking pathways and doors or creating clutter that disrupts your home's energy flow.
Balance
Aim for a balanced decoration scheme. Refrain from overloading one area with decorations while leaving others bare.
Natural Elements
Incorporate natural elements like fresh greenery, flowers, or wood to bring in the energy of growth and renewal.
Avoid Overstimulation
While going all out is tempting, avoid excessive flashing lights or loud decorations that could overwhelm the senses.
Personal Touch
Infuse your décor with personal meaning and intention. Use items that hold sentimental value to you and your family.
Dinner Table
Avoid spikey plants or decorations; add pink/rose-colored candles on the table to enhance love and support; orange or peach-colored candles bring joy and happiness. Make sure all five elements are present on the table: fresh flowers to represent wood, crystal glasses or ceramic plates to represent the earth, silverware for metal, candles to represent fire, and something blue or a bottle of water to represent the element water.
Let’s not stop here
Make sure fabulous energy enters your home. Ensure the entrance is well-lit, and add a wreath to your door that contains red and gold colors to attract abundance to your home.
Feng Shui Tips for This Christmas:
Tree Placement
This year, the best areas to place your Christmas tree are in the North, East, South, or Center of your home or living room. This year, avoid placing your tree in the SouthEast, SouthWest, or West of your home, home, or living room.
Balanced Decor
Ensure your decorations maintain a sense of balance. Use a harmonious color scheme and distribute decorations throughout the space rather than clustering them in one area. For example, if you place your Christmas tree North of your home or living room, the tree's decorations and your gifts should be blue, silver, gold, red, and white. When your tree is placed in the East, decorate it with gold, silver, white, and blue (no red here). If you place your Christmas tree in the Center or South area of your home or living room, use orange, yellow, purple, rose, hot pinks, and gold.
Lighting
Opt for soft, warm lights instead of harsh, bright ones. Soft lighting promotes a cozy, welcoming atmosphere and is more soothing for the overall energy.
Symbolism
Incorporate Feng Shui-friendly symbols like red (for good luck and happiness), gold (for wealth and prosperity), and crystals (for clarity and positive energy).
Clutter Control
With extra decorations, it's easy to create clutter. Ensure decorations don't impede movement or gather dust, as clutter can stagnate energy.
Remember, Feng Shui is about creating a harmonious environment, so these guidelines are meant to help you maintain a positive energy flow in your space while celebrating the festive season. Adjustments can always be made based on your specific home layout and personal preferences.
